Osogbo transit from Analogue to Digital Broadcasting
Following the success of the digital switch over in the states of Plateau, Abuja, Kwara, Enugu and Kaduna, the Federal Government had extended the digital; Terrestrial Broadcasting reach to Osun state.
The transition was launched by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alh Lai Mohammed at the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Headquarters in Osogbo, the state capital on 23rd February 2018.
The Minister stated that Nigeria is building what will be Africa’s biggest and most lucrative free to Air Television platform, with the ongoing switchovers.
“With over 24 million TV households and being the capital of African creativity in music and film, I am now more than convinced that we will also become the capital of television in Africa within the next few years,” the Minister said at the launch,
The Minister in company of the Osun state Governor, Rauf Aregbesola amongst other dignitaries described the development as a revolution in the broadcast sector. He further congratulated the Integrated Television services (ITS) for the commitment and consistency towards the DSO project
Director General of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission also stated as Nigeria consolidates its position as the hub of content in Africa, we are also providing the wings literary, for our television content to also fly, and become dominant, in terms of the television experience in our homes. Apart from being an impressive technical platform, Digital Broadcasting is even more important, as a major avenue for the conveyance of culture and of national development aspirations. The DSO process offers a bouquet of local, regional and national channels, He said.
In his speech, the Governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola believes that the greatest achievement of the digital revolution is the availability of information and entertainment. He was glad that the transition has broken the monopoly of access to digital television by the wealthy citizens.
The Integrated Television Services on whose platform the DSO was launched, is committed to effectively providing digital television services to the state and it promises a better and different television viewing experience to the people of the state with a bouquet of 30 free channels at the moment.
The digital signals can be accessed by acquiring and installing a Set Top Box with no monthly subscription.
